How to make Vietnamese Beef Jerky
In Vietnam, beef jerky is one of the most beloved snacks of all ages, especially the young generation, it’s hard to find anyone who doesn’t love it. It may seem difficult to make but it’s really not. Today I’m gonna show you how easy it is.
2.2 lbs lean beef
3 tbsp sugar
2 tsp salt
1 tsp 5-spice powder
2 tbsp oyster sauce
2 tsp beef stew seasoning (can be substituted by 5-spice powder)
2 tbsp minced lemon grass
2 chili peppers (you can add more or less, depends on how spicy you want your beef jerky to be)
Step 1: slice the beef with the grain into thin slices. You can put the beef in the freezer for about an hour before so that you can slice it more easily.
Step 2: Mix all the spices together until very well combined.
Step 3: Pour the sauce onto the beef and mix well. In order to get the beef well marinated, we’re gonna let it rest in the fridge for at least 4 hours or better overnight.
Step 4: In a nonstick pan on high heat, place the beef slices in, try to flatten them out, so that the beef jerk can get straightened in the end. After the slices are cooked on one side, turn them over to the other. Continue to cook until there is no more juice in the pan.
Step 5: Place the beef slices evenly on a rack or a baking tray. Turn the oven to broil and dry the beef for about 5-7 minutes. The drying time can vary depends on how dry you want your beef jerky to be. Flip the slices once or twice to get them dried more quickly. It’s also important to keep an eye on the beef the whole time so that they won’t get burned.
And we are done with 5 simple steps. Beef jerky can be stored in the fridge for 2 weeks or in the freezer for months. I hope you guys will give it a try and let me know how it turns out 🙂
